As most of you know, we recently started a new calendar year (2011). And as tradition dictates (at least my tradition), I made a list of resolutions. Then I checked the resolutions I made last year (and blogged about here), and they were virtually identical!!!
Hmmm. I’m not sure what that says about me, but it must say something! Here’s the list from last year:
- Maintain my exercise regimen (I've been a little lax on the stretching component).
- Spend my time more wisely, and its corollary, don't waste so much time surfing the Internet and cruising the blogosphere (some version of this one ends up on the list every year).
- Take Vitamin D and B12 (the B12 is new this year).
- Reduce clutter. Simplify.
- Eat a new food (Every year I resolve to add a new (healthy) food to my repertoire. Some winners: beans, avocados, hummus. Still can't do Brussels sprouts. And don't get me started on cheese. This year's candidates: edamame or fennel.)
Two changes for this year: I’m adding Vitamin B12 to my supplements. And last year’s new food was edamame, but I still need a new food for this year.
Any suggestions? (Not fennel; that ship has sailed.)

Alan - I think all of us have those perennial things that we try to do better on. I know I do. As far as new foods to try? Hmmm... water chestnuts? Maybe that's just because I love Chinese food...
Well, you've got that new Kindle, so I think you *will* be reading more! New foods...let's see. Most men seem to hate asparagus. Do you? We had a discussion on Mystery Lovers' Kitchen about it a while back. Odd phenomenon!
Love edamame. Was very glad to find they've gone mainstream, as there are no Asian grocery stores in our new digs.
My daughter's been making kale chips. Will have to give them a try.

It's green tea for me this year. Lots and lots of green tea. Given that I much prefer Diet Coke, and am therefore angry at green tea for replacing it, I abbreviate the latter GFT rather than GT, and you can guess what the F stands for.
Margot - I've been digging water chestnuts for years. Well, not really "digging" them, but...you know what I mean.
Elizabeth - I DO hate asparagus, but I never really thought it was a gender thing. But now that you mention it, my wife likes it and my mother likes it. And my boys don't. Interesting.
Terry - I tried kale chips once. As my kids would say: Fail.
Steve - Okay. I'll guess "flavorful."
Do you eat beets? Not the canned/jar kind, but fresh roasted beets? I know a lot of people who've never tried them.
Or how about sardines?
