Ooo, Shiny

The holidays are fast approaching and I’m considering pulling the trigger and asking for an ereader.

Kindle? Nook? Nook color? iPad?

So many choices!

Tell me, O Great Blog Readers, which ereaders do you like? Why? What features do you deem essential?

Alan - I can certainly see why you want an E-reader! They can be wonderful, and people I know who have them - love them. I don't have one, so I can't speak from experience. But people I know who have the Kindle love it because there are so many books out there that are compatible with it.

I've been pondering the same thing. So far I'm leaning toward the Nook. I'm not a big fan of Amazon for one thing. And I like that I can buy replacement batteries for the Nook at B&N. I gather you have to send the Kindle back and have them do it. Plus, you can upgrade the Nook easier...from what I've been told.

Still, I'm eager to hear what others have to say on the subject, too.

Hi, Alan-since I've gone into this in my own blog post today, I'll let you pop over to Terry's Place for my answers. :-)

I'm balancing precariously on the fence when it comes to ereaders. On the one hand, I like the idea of being able to carry around 500 books with ease and poise. On the other hand, dropping a book may result in a bruised foot, while dropping an ereader may result in bruises of a different sort.

I got a Kindle eight days ago, and I am quite satisfied with it though I am really a paperbook person. One reason for buying it was to get free review books (yes, you can read PDF on a computer screen, but it is definitely not fun!) Besides I don´t have to pay for shipping or Danish VAT - I save quite a lot that way.

I checked beforehand that I can convert Danish ebooks to Kindle versions. And the other day when I was reading a huge paperback (450 pages) in bed, I wished it were a Kindle book!

So now I just hope the shops will drop their ridiculous geographical restrictions, enabling me to buy British books directly from Waterstones e.g.

I like my Kindle! :) It's the only one I can personally speak for, although I've played with an iPad for about an hour. I just like the fact that the Kindle isn't backlit and that I don't seem to get eyestrain with it.

I have an ipad and a kindle, and while I love my ipad for many things, I do most of my reading on my kindle. It's a lot more portable, and since it's less of an investment I worry less about doing it an injury taking it out and about (reading in the hammock, for example.) It's not much good for web-surfing, email, etc. though.

Thanks for all your input! I think I've narrowed down my choices to: a Kindle, a Nook, or an iPad :)

I have asked for Barnes and Noble gift cards with the idea of buying a Nook or Nook color. Still undecided between them.
