Hot Reading

Summer is just about here, and I'm looking forward to some relaxing reading by the pool (since I don't swim, I have even more time to read). My TBR pile is already a mile high, but that's never stopped me from adding to it.

So I pose these questions to you, my wonderful blog readers:

What is in your summer TBR pile?

And what book(s) have you read lately that you would recommend?

Now off to find some sunscreen.

Alan - Ooooh, that TBR pile! I've got so much in it, that I don't know where to begin. But one book I want to read is Yrsa Sigurðardóttir's My Soul to Keep. I liked her first book very much, and am eager to read the next. As for what I'd recommend? That depends on your taste, of course. But I really enjoyed Martin Clark's The Legal Limit, if you like more literary thrillers. If you like straight-upnoir thrillers, I'd say Ian Vasquez' Lonesome Point. I can think of others, too, but again, it's all about taste.

The Long Price Quartet by Daniel Abraham - it was amazing...

I'm reading John Sanford's Storm Prey. Have Laura Griffin's earlier books in my stack. And J.D. Robb's newest on reserve at the library.

I recently finished "Likeness" by Tara French. I really enjoyed it. I also liked her first book, "In the Woods." Both are detective type books with the emphasis more on the characters than the crime. And of course, “Diamonds for the Dead” is on my to read list!

Ooooh, thanks, all! Some good suggestions here.

Any opinion on Stieg Larsson's books? I think I'm the only mystery lover in the world who hasn't read him yet.

My TBR pile is out of control. Just finishing up The Kill by Jan Neuhart - great murder mystery set in Virginia hunt country. Also on the list: Grace Under Pressure by Julie Hyzy, Th Heat of the Moon by Sandra Parshall, Lorna Barrett's new release Chapter and Hearse. Oh, and of course, I already finished Diamonds for the Dead - loved it!

Hilary Mantell's Wolf Hall is on my TBR list.

I highly recommend The Slap by Australian writer Christos Tsiolkas and The Help by Kathryn Stockett, if you haven't already read them.

I highly recommend In the Woods by Tana French. My TBR stack has grown huge again -- included are Zen and Xander, a YA novel by Amy Kathleen Ryan and the debut novel of the some guy named Alan Orloff, Diamonds for the Dead, and the Stephen King book and the Dan Brown book, and more, much much more. I need a whole month at the beach (or even hiding out on my patio).

I have a whole TBR bookshelf currently that is filled with a bunch of books...double stacked.

As for recommendations, I've heard nothing but praise for Stieg Larsson's books, so I would check them out.

I finished a few books by David Sedaris and would recommend him for a good laugh or Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's comedy about the apocalypse titled "Good Omens."

Write on! (And of course read on!)

Well, it is winter here but I have Unique by Alison Allen-Gray, Need by Carrie Jones, First Among Sequels by Jasper Fforde (though I've put off reading this one for months and I doubt it is going to be read any time soon) and I've also got an entire box of second hand books to go through and who knows what is in that pile. Between that collection and the few re-reads I have lined up, I've got enough books to last for at least a year.

Best of luck with your summer reading.

My TBR file almost reaches the ceiling in my house! In that pile are books I've won or bought, and at the top are the ones written by people whose blogs I visit.

Gee, wish I had a pool to lay by and read. I do, however, have a very tranquil garden …
